Frequently asked questions

Yes, we deliver to students who live off campus in apartments, homes, and Greek houses. All we ask is that you share a roommates name and number as back up in case they are unavailable when we make the delivery. It is always our hope to put it directly in your students hands but sometimes students are unavailable last minute.

Always! The best part of our service is sharing their joy with you. Pictures are sent the same day as delivery. Upon request we will also FaceTime when possible.

Yes, absolutely! Many parents will ship gifts and or birthday cards from home for us to include. Some parents have also shipped items to us directly via sites like Amazon too.

Yes, we can pick up their prescriptions along with anything your student needs to feel better. That might include things a Neti Pot, cold medicine, fresh fruit, soup, whatever they would like to feel better soon!

Yes, we definitely can do this! And no one can pack a dorm room with your child better than a mom can. We will help your student determine what goes home, what goes into storage, and what gets donated. We will bring boxes, packing tape, ziplocs, and of course a scale to ensure their luggage for their flight is within the airlines weight parameters too. We will even help ensure your students room is left in appropriate condition per their dorm contract. FYI there are many companies that help store students items over the summer. These companies typically advertise in the spring semester.

Between now and the end of the semester there are several things your student can do to help ensure an easier move out at the end of the semester. First, every time your student returns home, have them bring home anything they no longer need. For example, at spring break, perhaps they bring home any winter clothing, boots, etc that they won't need when they return to campus. And when they return to campus after spring break, be sure to send them back to school with EMPTY luggage. I'm a big fan of the heavy-duty blue IKEA bags that zip. FRAKTA Storage bag for cart, blue, 28 ¾x13 ¾x11 ¾"20 gallon - IKEA Order several, they're inexpensive and can be easily stored "somewhere" in your student's dorm room. AND YES you can check these bags at the airport. However I strongly suggest you only put clothing, shoes and or bedding in these bags.

Of course, we can help. With families of our own we know how hard it is for our students to pack. Not only can we help them pack but if they need additional pieces of luggage, we can get that for them too. We know what brands will work well AND are affordably priced.

We can assist with whatever your student needs to ensure a smooth transition at the conclusion of their term.

Absolutely! It would be our pleasure to ship your accepted student a "Welcome to OSU" package. We can customize that package too! Fill out our request services form and we can plan something really special, together!

Columbus, especially this past week, can be very cold AND wet in the winter. Ensure your kiddo has a warm winter coat (some students prefer LONG winter coats) and waterproof winter boots. And if you can, ensure those winter boots are treated for salt. Ohio State does an excellent job of spreading salt on all sidewalks, which is great for your walk across campus but not great on your leather / suede boots. And "IF" they'll wear them, make sure they have warm gloves, a hat, and maybe even a scarf (some college kids will wear these things, right?).

Of course, we can bring them soup and anything else they might need. However, if they ONLY want soup, we encourage you to contact the Ohio State University Hillel organization. They deliver homemade matzoh ball soup at no charge to ALL students, regardless of religious affiliation. Vegetarian and gluten free options are available too. Ohio State students have multiple options to store their items during the summer months. Parents have raved about all of the companies listed below.

*Start here - this is from OSU's parent page - they recommend the following: https://parent.osu.edu/articles/cost-saving-summer-storage-options/

*https://www.movers.com/ (similar process to Zippy U).

*Another option that families have also raved about is the Stor-All on West Fifth Avenue (ask for Carol Ann; 614-299-0005 - OSU students receive a 10% discount).

HOW CAN WE HELP? Let the LaurenHelpsU team of mom's save you the headache (and expense!) of flying out, staying in a hotel, and renting a car. We have successfully helped other students in the past and can easily help your student as well. We will help your Buckeye pack their room at the conclusion of their semester. We will assist your student with packing what goes home, packing what goes into storage, and helping them determine what gets donated. We will also help them ensure their room is left in an appropriate condition per their dorm or Greek room contract. Many parents have recommended Campus Tailoring and Cleaning. Plus students can take the COTA #2 bus north a couple blocks to get there easily on their own, on their schedule (plus their campus ID lets them ride at n/c). Of course we can always help them too. Good luck!
